LUXURY hot chocolate cafe chain Knoops will be opening its York store next month - and is looking for staff. The 'posh' hot chocolate cafe is currently being fitted out in the former Boots the Opticians shop on the corner of Parliament Street and St Sampson's Square. Boots the Opticians has opened a new branch in Coney Street.

The new Knoops cafe is expected to have seating for around 17 inside and also sell take-away drinks. What to expect? Well, it all looks a little bit different from a standard coffee shop selling hot chocolate. The Knoops drinks menu has a wide range of chocolates to choose from, all of which are available as hot chocolates, and six are available as iced chocolates and milkshakes.

Mocha and tea will also be available. The iced chocolates are similar to an iced coffee and feature a small, strong hot chocolate, topped with cold milk and poured over ice cubes. The milkshakes are made with chocolate flakes, milk and soft scoop dairy ice cream.

Expect a range of baked treats too. Knoops is a fast-growing chain. Founder Jens Knoop, who was born in Germany, opened his first Knoops store in Rye, East Sussex, in 2013, followed by others across the country.

He has also developed a range of chocolate flakes for sale to recreate the Knoops drinks at home and has written a chocolate cookbook. A post on the company's website reads: "York. We're really looking forward to opening our York store on Parliament Street".

Boarding on the window features a selection of Knoops drinks and the message that it is opening in September and is hiring, with details of its website: . The brand aims to have 200 UK stores by 2027, led by outlet growth in major cities and university towns. Knoops also plans to expand internationally within the next 12 months.

And if you were wondering how to pronounce the name of the cafe, the website gives us some advice: 'kuh' like 'uh' and 'noops' like 'hoops' - so Kuh–noops. You're welcome!.
