Wendy Marian Edwards, 95, long time resident of Marin and Contra Costa Counties passed away in Danville, California peacefully on June 10, 2024.Wendy was born on August 18, 1928 to Herbert Owen and Hilda Laycock in Wath upon Dearne, England. She was raised in South Yorkshire with her brother John.

She attended nursing school at Sheffield Children’s Hospital. In 1952 she ventured on the Queen Mary for a nursing abroad program in the US. During that time, she met our dad, David Edwards, from Barbados.

They were married in Barbados on December 3,1955. They started their family in Detroit where Bob was born in 1957. They continued their move west for the next work opportunity and arrived in Los Angeles.

Tracey was born in 1964 in Van Nuys. As dad’s banking career progressed, they moved to San Rafael. Mom and Dad retired to Antioch in 1998.

After Dad died in 2014, Wendy continued to reside in Antioch until 2022 until she moved to Danville for the last two years of her life. Our mom was a kind, smart, beautiful, and loving mother. She was a loyal friend, a “mom” to many, an aunt to more, a sister-in-law, and a doting grandmother.

She was a talented painter, a polished hostess, a wonderful cook and always a nurse. Together, mom and dad built a close knit family, hosted many gatherings and welcomed many to their home. She loved and nurtured her animals- her birds, dogs and cats and she loved her garden.

She was very proud of her British heritage and Barbados family and maintained connection to all the family and friends throughout her life. Mom is survived by her children Bob (Lori) Edwards and Tracey (Mark) Calassa; and her grandchildren, Lauren Calassa and DJ Waaland, as well as her numerous nieces and nephews. She joins her loving husband, her parents, and her brother John in heaven.
