Vadodara: The state govt will build a weir across the Mahi river near Poicha in Savli taluka of Vadodara district. Chief minister Bhupendra Patel will launch the project on Saturday. The weir has been planned to address the water requirements of Savli taluka in Vadodara district and Umreth taluka in Anand district.

The project is expected to benefit 49 villages in the region. Water from the weir will be used for agriculture, drinking and industrial purposes. The weir will be the fourth structure on the Mahi to hold water.



The others are the Kadana dam, Dolatpura weir, Wanakbori weir and the Sindhrot weir. The Poicha weir will be able to hold water up to 15km upstream. It is expected to raise groundwater levels for 4km on either side of the river, where some 49 wells are located.

Savli taluka has several industrial units that will also benefit from the weir. The project will cost Rs 429.76 crore.

The CM will also launch or inaugurate other works in Vadodara district on Saturday. He will also inaugurate the Atal Jan Seva Kendra of Vadodara MP Dr Hemang Joshi at the district collectorate..
