The Manchester Evening News is proud to be at the very heart of the communities it serves - loudly championing their people and places. We celebrate the best of our region and have done for more than 150 years. From sports to politics, nightlife to health, our trusted and campaigning journalism has brought about positive change at local and national level, and won multiple awards.
We are here for our readers - and we want to thank them for what they have helped us to achieve over the years. Together, we have raised more than £250,000 to save one of Greater Manchester's oldest and most important institutions - a lifeline for young people and deprived communities, Salford Lads and Girls Club. The 121-year-old club announced in October it needed to raise the money by the end of November to remain open and our campaign, backed by many thousands of donations, large and small, did just that.
Explore the MEN. The next move is to set up a £1m 'Legacy Fund' - a permanent endowment that could draw down £40,000 to £50,000 a year in returns. The M.
E.N. will be there to speak up for the club, and other institutions that need our support and that of Greater Manchester.
We use our website to change lives. Two of our campaigns were mentioned in this year's King's Speech, Awaab's Law and Martyn's Law. When a two year-old boy, Awaab Ishak, died after living in a flat riddled with mould on a Rochdale estate, we called for lasting change to save lives in his name.
