Kiran Rao-directed Laapataa Ladies is India’s official entry for the Oscars 2025. Released earlier this year, the comedy-drama resonated with the audience due to its simplistic portrayal of societal issues without being too preachy. After its initial run in theatres, the film was released on Netflix, and it broke records in no time.

As Laapataa Ladies makes its way to the prestigious Academy Awards, the makers of the film shared a heartwarming moment from its screening. Aamir Khan Productions dropped a video on its Instagram Stories, offering a glimpse at the moment when the entire cast and crew of Laapataa Ladies watched the film together on the big screen for the first time. The video opened with people cheering as the end credits featuring Aamir Khan and Kiran Rao’s names rolled up.

As the camera panned, Ravi Kishan, who played Sub-Inspector Shyam Manohar, was seen giving a hug to the film’s director. Next, the two female leads, Nitanshi Goel (Phool) and Pratibha Ranta (Jaya/Pushpa) embraced one another while shedding tears of happiness. Further, Chhaya Kadam, who portrayed Manju Maai, was emotional as well, and Kishan and Rao were seen giving tight hugs to the two female leads.

In the same video, the Mamla Legal Hai actor took the mic and said, “Maine 750 filmein har bhasha mein kar li, lekin main kabhi roya nahi, aaj meri aankh se aansu aayein bas main itna hi kahunga (I have done over 750 films in many languages but I never cried, but today I cried that’s all .
