The New York Mets offense did nothing for eight innings on Thursday night, and it looked like it was going to be the end of their season in Game 3 of their National League wild-card game against the Milwaukee Brewers. Then Pete Alonso stepped to the plate. Following a Francisco Lindor walk and a Brandon Nimmo single, Alonso represented the go-ahead run and clubbed a three-run, opposite field home run off of Brewers closer Devin Williams to give the Mets the lead in the most dramatic fashion possible.

Williams is one of the best closers in baseball and that is only the second home run he allowed all season. In a lot of ways that Alonso at-bat felt like it was going to be the definitive at-bat of his Mets career.
Facing free agency this winter and without a new contract, it was entirely possible that would be his final at-bat in the team's uniform. He had a chance to make an impact and he did just that..
