New South Wales detectives are holding a press conference after charging veteran broadcaster Alan Jones over historic indecent assault and sexual touching offences. Officers detained the 83-year-old at his luxury Circular Quay apartment located next to Sydney Harbour on Monday morning following a nine-month police investigation. It is alleged Jones used his position of power to prey on men, which allegedly included groping or inappropriately touching without their consent at the height of his career.
He has strenuously denied the allegations. A team of detectives arrived at his waterside apartment worth an eye-watering $20 million about 7:45am with black bags, suitcases and specialist equipment. They spoke with the former 2GB host and Wallabies coach for some hours before he was escorted by police to a police station in the city for further questioning.
The 83-year-old - dressed in what appeared to be a matching green tracksuit - was seated in the back of a white SUV next to a female detective. He did not show any emotion as cameras and photographers swarmed the car. This is a breaking story.
It will be updated after the police press conference..
