Current Vice President Kamala Harris called Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz on Tuesday morning, Aug. 6, to ask the governor if he would serve as her running mate in her campaign for United States President.
"I want you to do this with me. Let's do this together," Harris says over the phone in a video by Politico . "Would you be my running mate?" Walz didn't need any time to make the decision.
"I would be honored, Madam Vice President," Walz says in the video, which captured Walz and Harris talking on speaker phone from their respective locations. The now-official running mates, who will face off against former president Donald Trump and his running mate J.D.
Vance, spoke briefly following Walz' acceptance, each voicing support for the other. ADVERTISEMENT "The joy that you're bringing back to the country, the enthusiasm that's out there, it'll be a privilege to take this with you across the country," Walz said. "You understand our country, you have dedicated yourself to our country in so many different and beautiful ways, and we're going to do this," Harris told Walz.
Walz' final comment was a simple one. "Let's win this thing," Walz said before thanking Harris and ending the call..
