Record-setting running back Kelvin Washington of Longview and all-around standout Trevor Brooks of Chapel Hill were honored on Wednesday as Built Ford Tough Texas High School Football Players of the Week for Week 6 of the season. Washington, who ran over and around Rockwall defenders in a 63-34 win, is the 6A Player of the Week, and Brooks earned 4A honors. They are joined on the list this week by Flour Bluff quarterback Jayden Paluseo in 5A, Coahoma running back Jaidyn Vineyard in 3A, Stratford quarterback and linebacker Bryce Braden in 2A and Saint Joseph Academy quarterback Gavin Cisneros for private schools.
Washington carried 24 times for 381 yards and a school-record six touchdowns, caught two passes for 110 yards and two scores and set up a TD with a 41-yard kickoff return in the Lobos' win over Rockwall. His eight total touchdowns broke a school record set during the 1927 season, and he also had TD runs of 95 and 91 yards to become the first Lobo to have two 90-plus runs in one game. "Kelvin displayed speed, physicality, toughness and his unique skill set on Friday against Rockwall," Lobo head coach John King said.
"In typical Boosie fashion, when I asked him after the game what was the best thing about Friday night, he said 'Coach...
we won!' He's a great teammate to all, and a joy to coach. Brooks recorded 11 tackles, a sack, two forced fumbles and a fumble recovery on defense to go along with a punt return of 60 yards, six catches for 78 yards, one run for six yards.
