A North East supermarket is set to re-open for customers this week following a major refurbishment. The Aldi s tore at Washington is set to re-open on Thursday after closing earlier this month. The store, at Armstrong House, is one of 30 UK stores that are being updated to incorporate additional space for customers, sleek floor layouts and sustainable features.

The upgrades will make for an all-round better shopping experience and a more sustainable store, Aldi says. Changes to the Washington store include increased chiller space, complete with new fridge doors to reduce energy consumption, as well as additional room for Special Buys and redesigned health and beauty and bakery sections for a modernised look. ” The store employs 38 colleagues, and during re-opening week will be offering garden essentials, including telescopic heavy-duty loppers for £19.99, a compost bin for £19.99 and garden bags for £3.

99. Aldi will also spruce up the stores with new signs. With an earmarked investment of over £90 million on store enhancements throughout 2024, more than 100 stores are expected to benefit from the operation.
