The Golden State Warriors won their second game of the season, defeating the Utah Jazz in Salt Lake City, 127-86. For the second straight game, Steve Kerr played 12 players, and the Dubs emptied their bench early. Clearly, the method is working , as the Warriors have won both their games in dominating fashion.
In their season debut against the Portland Trail Blazers, Buddy Hield led the way for the Warriors with 22 points. He remained hot against the Jazz, scoring 27 points and making seven of his nine shots from behind the arc. He is poised to have a career year playing against Stephen Curry, who he has long been compared to.
© Rob Gray-Imagn Images Curry was a solid player in the matchup as well, posting 20 points of his own. Utah was led by John Collins, who scored 14 points. The Warriors had three players pass that mark.
Golden State shot 40 percent from three compared to Utah's 21.4 percent. Kerr has received criticism for his bench-heavy lineups, but with a team that never tires--or misses--the Dubs are emerging as the team to beat in the crowded Western Conference.
While Hield's blistering shooting might not be sustainable all season, Golden State's "next man up" mentality will continue to shine all season. If Hield hits a slump, Curry, Brandin Podzeimski, or Jonathan Kuminga, as well as others, can add a bit to their offensive load. Clearly, having an incredibly deep lineup has plenty of positives.
