The annual multicultural showcase is taking place on Saturday, October 12, 2024 at the Gardens of the Future in White Hills with thousands of people expected to flock to the event. The event also allows different ethnic groups from all around Victoria to showcase the parts of their culture which make them proud.
Maha Htoo Sein said it was a "very inclusive day" which allowed people to network with other ethnic or cultural groups. "It is a very vibrant festival where you learn a lot about people - it is a very good day," he said. These sentiments were echoed by Laila Hashimi, a Hazara woman living in Bendigo about to celebrate her third Zinda festival.
Ms Hashimi said she had received great feedback from the community during her time involved in the spectacle. "For me it is really popular, it is the biggest event for multiculturalism," she said. Given Zinda's popularity, a field at the corner of Kennewell and Hamelin Streets will be set up for free parking.
Many of the acts taking to the stage are local groups with performances scheduled from 11am to 5pm. There will be a Welcome to Country, addresses from state parliamentarians, song groups, dances tutorials and poem readings. The event will run until 6p.
