Peaceful Bayside is hosting an exploratory walk along the proposed "Kamay Greenway" on Sunday, August 25. / (min cost $ 0 ) or signup to continue reading Peaceful Bayside lead candidate for Ward 5 in the September 14 council elections, Councillor Heidi Lee Douglas is pushing for the creation of the Kamay Greenway, a nature and active transport corridor connection from the Cooks River to the Georges River, which will extend existing nature and active transport corridors to wind all the way from Arncliffe to Sans Souci. Councillor Douglas submitted a Notice of Motion at the May 22 Bayside Council meeting asking the council to prioritise investigation into extending the Active Transport Route south of President Avenue to Sans Souci, to be called the Kamay Greenway.

"This would be a green corridor and safe pathway for pedestrians and cyclists from Kyeemagh to Sandringham that connects our community and restores nature and our waterways," Cr Douglas said. The Kamay Greenway plan has an estimated cost of $10 million. The proposed route would pass through AS Tanner Reserve, Scarborough Park East, across the pedestrian bridge over Scarborough Ponds, along the east of the Baseball pitch, and connect to Margate Street.

It would cross Ramsgate Road and continue south through the west of Bona Park and the traffic crossing at Sandringham and Napoleon Street and continue on the western bank of Bado-Berong Creek to Russell Street, through Equestrian Park, Stan Moses Reserve to Scott Park. It then would link with the foreshore path creating a 16 km loop, or onwards across Captain Cook Bridge connecting the Sutherland Shire and Woolooware Bay Shared Pathway. "The Kamay Greenway will unify the district and provide an impressive community amenity, completing a safe 16 km walking and cycling and flowing directly into the shared path along Botany Bay' s foreshore and connecting our green spaces," Cr Douglas said.

"Join this walk to learn more about the Kamay Greenway and our vision for a better, safer and more connected Bayside. "We already have Bayside Council's support to investigate the Kamay Greenway. Now we need state government support.

And in the next term of Council, Peaceful Bayside will advocate to link up more green spaces across Bayside, like the Kamay Greenway, so we can all enjoy the beauty of the area and the myriad of benefits that come from being outdoors, whether walking, cycling or running." Bayside residents wishing to participate in the Kamay Greenway walk should meet on Sunday, August 25 at Scott Park at 12pm to walk north. Alternatively, meet at Dolls Point Service Centre Park Road, Ramsgate at 1pm to walk south.
