Thank you for your recent article about St. Ann’s Catholic Church in East Baltimore and the effort of its parishioners to buy the historic church from the Archdiocese of Baltimore. As noted in the article, the Archdiocese of Baltimore intends to close and sell the 150-plus-year-old church and merge the congregation with another parish ( Aug.

2). The Sun’s article compelled me to visit St. Ann’s for the first time.

I live in Bel Air and decided to drive 45 minutes to attend St. Ann’s for 11 a.m.

mass on Sunday, Aug. 4. I am so glad that I did.

My first impression of St. Ann’s is that it’s beautiful. The interior of the church is stunning and very well-maintained.

Moreover, the congregants could not have been more welcoming. I was especially impressed by the “small but mighty” choir. Lastly, I’ll note the surrounding neighborhood seems to be on the upswing, with Penn Station and Charles Village not too far away.

I invite your readers to check out St. Ann’s themselves. I will be back again.

I wish the congregation the best of luck with saving St. Ann’s. I very much hope the archdiocese either reconsiders its closing or cedes to the congregants’ request to purchase the property.
