A new work, also premieres, written to commemorate the tragic events that occurred in Bondi Junction in April earlier this year.
Whilst might be the 'big' work on this program, soloist in the Bruch, Teresa Yang, is the superstar. Beginning her musical journey at the age of five, the violin serendipitously seemed to choose her, Teresa said. "Although I didn't have a huge say originally in what instrument I would learn, I fell in love with the violin quickly, its glorious, sweet sound, its versatility, creating endless possibilities for nuance.
I have never doubted once that the violin is the instrument for me." Already a seasoned and formidable performer, the awards and accolades just keep stacking up. Teresa won the 40th annual NSW Secondary Schools Concerto Competition earlier this year, and in 2023 won the 2MBS Fine Music Sydney Young Virtuoso Award.
In the same year she won the National Youth Concerto Competition, after placing as a finalist the year before. In similar fashion, after winning the 2021 Encouragement Award she took out first place in the Melbourne Recital Centre Bach Competition in 2022 at just 15. Teresa recently graduated as a music scholar and head prefect at Meriden School.
She is also a scholarship recipient in the Sydn.
