Vinesh Phogat 's campaign event in Gatauli, Haryana, faced a three-hour delay, culminating in a late-evening gathering on Sunday. The event saw tractors, SUVs, and villagers gathering to support Phogat as she runs for office on a Congress ticket for the Julana constituency , ToI's Siddharth Saxena reported. Elections in Haryana are largely male-dominated public events.
In Julana, a Jat-majority agricultural area, villagers expressed pride in Phogat's candidacy. Sewa Singh, a local, highlighted the cultural significance, noting, “Notice how she had her head covered with her dupatta here.” Singh continued, “Ab bahu hai, toh naata toh hai, lekin vote ka agley mahiney hi dekhenge.
” Despite her delay and a busy schedule, Phogat humorously commented on her challenging routine, saying, “Godde hi toot gaye, bhai-saab.” However, she added, “Lekin mujhe aana toh tha.” Phogat's candidacy comes after her outspoken protests at Jantar Mantar, which many saw as a fight for women's rights and safety.
She has transitioned from being an Olympic wrestler to a political figure seeking justice for her community. The election office launch in Julana drew large crowds and was marked by a havan ceremony. Among her supporters is Madhubala, vice president of the Haryana Students’ Federation of India.

Parminder Singh Dhull, a former MLA, was a leading contender for the Congress ticket.
Although some party members were disappointed, others like Dharampal Kataria have committed to supporting Phogat. Kataria, secretary of the Haryana Pradesh Congress Committee, remarked, “Our target is to win by at least 50,000 votes.” Phogat addressed supporters, saying, “Main toh sirf ek zariya hoon, sirf ek chehraa.
Asli kaam toh aap ko karna hai.” She acknowledged the love and support from the community, “Bahut pyar diya laadli ko. Yahan ki bahu hoon, lekin beti sey zyadaa pyaar diya hai.
” Among her supporters are women like Seema Devi, who expressed her frustration with the government and support for Phogat, “Dilli-waali sarkar ne hamari naukriyaan khaa li. Vinesh ney iss sarkar ke khilaaf morcha nikala.” However, Phogat faces significant competition.
