A village was shut down due to an armed robbery. The public were asked to avoid Berwick village, near Polegate, yesterday while police attended the incident at around 3pm. The robbery was carried out at Berwick Post Office and it was reported that staff were threatened.

A person fled the scene. A 52-year-old man from Seaford was later arrested on suspicion of armed robbery and possession of a firearm and remains in custody. The village was closed to traffic while the incident took place.
