Tuesday, January 21, 2025 Vietnamese tourists played a key role in Japan’s record 36.8 million visitors in 2024, reflecting growing interest in exploring Japan’s vibrant culture and unique regions. Japanese tours have long been known for their competitive pricing and visa processes compared to destinations in Southeast Asia, the Republic of Korea, and China.

Remarkably, the number of Vietnamese tourists visiting Japan has seen steady growth each month, reflecting a strong and increasing interest in exploring the East Asian nation. Currently, most tours cater to Japan’s major cities, such as Tokyo, Osaka, and Kyoto. This focus has raised concerns about potential overcapacity due to the surging number of travelers.

To address this, the Japan National Tourism Organization (JNTO) aims to promote lesser-known regions across the country. By highlighting unique features from north to south and showcasing Japan’s seasonal charm, they hope to encourage Vietnamese visitors to venture beyond the traditional tourist hotspots. Adding to this appeal, Osaka is set to host the highly anticipated World Expo in April, running for six months.

This global event is expected to draw millions of visitors, with Vietnam predicted to be a key contributor to the international turnout. In 2024, Japan welcomed 36,869,900 international visitors, marking a 47.1% increase from the previous year.

Most tourists hailed from East Asia, Southeast Asia, Europe, the United States, Australia, and the Middle.
