Vietnam is steadily advancing toward adopting sustainable development practices in preparation for 2025. Emphasizing eco-friendly initiatives across multiple sectors, especially in tourism and finance, the nation recognizes the growing need for these changes as climate change intensifies the urgency for action.

The Vietnamese government is prioritizing sustainable tourism development with the goal of positioning the nation among the top 30 most competitive global tourist destinations by 2030. A key component of this strategy is reducing plastic waste within the tourism sector, a move expected to yield significant environmental benefits. By promoting public awareness campaigns and encouraging the adoption of eco-friendly tourism products, the country seeks to educate both industry stakeholders and travelers on minimizing plastic use.



Recent efforts led by the Vietnam Tourism Association, in collaboration with the Global Environment Facility (GEF), have shown encouraging progress. Within just three months of adopting green initiatives, participating businesses reported an average reduction of approximately 35% in plastic waste. Expanding these practices could lead to further improvements, providing substantial advantages for both the environment and the economy.
