Wednesday, August 28, 2024 Vietnam Airlines, the country’s flag carrier, has introduced a new promotion allowing frequent flyers from 46 different airlines to elevate their loyalty status through a status match program. This initiative lets travelers leverage their existing airline loyalty status to gain SkyTeam Elite and Elite Plus status, extending benefits across all SkyTeam member airlines and other Vietnam Airlines partners. Travelers interested in upgrading their status can begin by visiting the official registration page for the status match.

Managed by Loyalty Status Co, the program requires a fee that ranges from $59 to $299, depending on the level of status being matched. The process is streamlined for efficiency; applicants are notified within three business days if they have been approved, and the updated status will reflect on their accounts within five business days. To participate, applicants must provide a valid government-issued ID, such as a passport or driver’s license, to confirm eligibility.

Approved participants will receive a 12-month status upgrade to Titanium, Gold, or Platinum, determined by the status match process. To maintain this upgraded status, members must re-qualify based on the standard requirements of the Lotusmiles program. Vietnam Airlines’ latest status match offering follows similar initiatives by other SkyTeam members.

Earlier this summer, ITA Airways launched a free status match through its Volare program. Virgin Atlantic also has an ongoing status match opportunity, allowing members from 12 different airlines to earn SkyTeam status via its Flying Club. Additionally, Flying Blue, the loyalty program for Air France, KLM, and Transavia, offers a paid status match similar to the one provided by Vietnam Airlines.

The Vietnam Airlines Lotusmiles program includes three membership tiers, aligned with the SkyTeam Alliance’s Elite and Elite Plus levels. Members can also enjoy benefits on codeshare flights with non-SkyTeam partner airlines such as All Nippon Airways (ANA), Bangkok Airways, China Eastern, and Philippine Airlines. The benefits vary by tier: The status match is available to members of various airlines that are not part of the SkyTeam Alliance.

Eligible airlines include major players like Air India, American Airlines, British Airways, Cathay Pacific, Emirates, and United Airlines. A complete list of eligible airlines and their corresponding elite status tiers can be found on the official registration page. This initiative by Vietnam Airlines provides frequent travelers with an excellent opportunity to enhance their travel experience across a broad network of airlines, offering increased convenience and comfort through their enhanced loyalty status.
