Vietjet is following its tried-and-tested method of starting a new route and, when it is established, opening another to the same, now profitable, destination. With a fleet of around 85 aircraft, the ultra-low-cost carrier has the resources to keep adding capacity where it works, and this week, it is launching another new service. A northern connection to Kuala Lumpur On November 23, Vietnam's largest private airline, Vietjet, announced launching a new route to the Malaysian capital, Kuala Lumpur.
Vietjet already operates a service from Ho Chi Minh City in Vietnam's south to Kuala Lumpur, and on Thursday, it will inaugurate the new route from Hanoi to Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KUL). The new route was officially launched last Friday with an opening ceremony in Kuala Lumpur, attended by Vietnam's General Secretary To Lam during his official visit to Malaysia. Vietnam and Malaysia have elevated their bilateral relationship to a comprehensive strategic partnership, creating new opportunities for collaboration and development.
Connecting the two capitals will also enhance regional aviation connectivity and add further value to economic and cultural cooperation. The Ho Chi Minh City service to Kuala Lumpur started in 2016, and the new route will double Vietjet's flights between Vietnam and Malaysia to 14 return flights weekly. Vietjet is eagerly awaiting the delivery of up to 10 new Airbus A321neos before the end of this year.
