Wednesday, January 22, 2025 Vienna’s tourism sector reached unprecedented heights in 2024, marking the most successful year in its history. The city recorded 18.9 million overnight stays, a 9% increase compared to 2023, and welcomed over 8.

2 million arrivals, an 11% rise from the previous year. These figures not only surpass pre-pandemic levels by 7% but also highlight Vienna’s growing appeal as a premier global destination. Surge in Accommodation Revenue The accommodation sector experienced significant growth, with revenues exceeding €1 billion by October 2024.



By year-end, net revenue from overnight stays reached €1.24 billion, reflecting a remarkable 12% increase. This surge underscores Vienna’s ability to attract high-value travelers and its resilience in the competitive tourism market.

International Markets Drive Growth The United States emerged as a key contributor, recording 1.2 million overnight stays—a 17% increase from 2023—positioning it as Vienna’s third-largest international market. This growth was bolstered by rail travel ‘ expansion of direct connections, including a new route to Boston.

Additionally, the Chinese market showed signs of recovery, with 300,000 overnight stays, marking a 79% increase, and re-entered the top ten markets by revenue. The rise in luxury travel demand and increased direct flight frequencies are expected to further enhance this trend.
