Glanford Middle School students are feeling stronger together following a little friendly competition. Upcycled recyclables and trash were transformed into creative fashion, when students formed teams to organize, design, build, and model their creations on a red carpet runway to the theme of "stronger together" in an event dubbed a Clash-ion Show. "It's a great way to come together, do something that's a little outside the box and show creativity and have some fun together," said teacher Jenny Ohl.
"We think it is really important that students work together in different ways, in and outside the classroom." Ohl said the Jan. 17 Clash-ion show was designed to make the school's culture and community come alive and unique creations included projects inspired by the Minions, Squid Game, McDonald's restaurant, Warhammer and even a ballerina's tutu made from old newspapers.
"The Clash-ion show is a really fun experience, to get together as your teams in the school and just have fun and laugh," said student Juliet Majorki, who modelled the newspaper tutu for her team. Her favourite part of the experience? "Striking a pose at the end of the runway." Twelve-year-olds Corbin Whitecross and his teammate Bodie John-Kelly made a Mark 11 space marine armour inspired by the board game Warhammer but hand-crafted out of used cardboard.
