During Victoria County Commissioners Court Tuesday, John Williams, director of the Victoria County Veterans Office, showcased the department’s growing service to veterans. During the month of October, the veterans organization saw a rise in the amount of veterans in they service. That number has risen 430.
The Victoria County Veterans Office offers a wide array of services and recently, they have seen an increase in the number of veterans coming from different cities, Williams said. Yet some are unaware of what benefits they should receive. “We get a lot of people that come in and they say I’m a veteran, but I don’t know what types of benefits I’m getting,” Williams said.
“It’s an educational part of our office. But I couldn’t be more pleased or more blessed with the group of veterans we have because I’ve gone to Houston to some of their offices and there is a lot of tension in those places. Veterans from out of the city tell me they would rather come here.

It’s been a growing process. It’s been a good process, and we’ve got a lot of room for improvement,” Williams said. “We’ve got a lot of room to grow on, so we’re excited about the future.
