Ugandan-born, Newcastle-bred artist Victor Ray has today shared new single ‘Still The Same’, his first release since the ‘ I TRIED. ‘ EP – the third in a series of four releases charting Ray’s rise over the last two years. Premiering on BBC Radio 1’s Future Artists show yesterday evening, ‘Still The Same’ pivots to a stadium-sized, poppier sound, whilst retaining the soul-bearing quality of Ray’s earlier material.

Lyrically, Ray staunchly defends his humble roots despite the success and the superlatives bestowed upon him recently. Speaking about ‘Still The Same’ Victor says: “’Still The Same’ tells the story of my journey till now. The message that I hope people resonate with is: no matter how my world may change on the outside, I would never compromise any of the values I hold on the inside.

My journey has been one that started with struggle and heart, and that has shaped me in ways that no amount of fame or fortune could change .’ In his CLASH Next Wave interview , Ray spoke on his recent TikTok success, and how despite the viral moments, he was playing the long game: “I’m quite a traditional artist, the way I write my music. I’m always thinking long-term.

Social media is like fast food, so it’s important to make content that feels like an extension of the music. You never know how things are going to translate, but my fanbase is supporting my music and it’s only growing.” Ray’s new single arrives alongside news that his biggest headline show to date, at London’s KOKO on 25th November, has sold out.
