Tim Walz, who was chosen as Kamala Harris’ vice presidential running mate, has two children. The Minnesota governor was previously a high school teacher and football coach; he met his wife, Gwen Whipple, an English teacher at the same school. The 60-year-old also served in the Army National Guard and represented his district in the House of Representatives from 2007 to 2019.

Walz welcomed children Hope and Gus in 2001 and 2006, respectively, after a challenging fertility journey. In March 13, Walz described going through IVF for seven years before his wife became pregnant with their daughter. “It’s not by chance that we named our daughter Hope,” he said.

And now I’m excited to be at the national championship game with Hope tonight 🏀," Walz wrote in an Instagram post April 8, 2019. The couple welcomed their second child, Gus, in 2006. Walz's son is now officially a licensed driver.

The proud father posted the news on Instagram in 2023 with the caption "My son Gus just passed his (what do you call it? A drivers license exam?). Proud dad moment." In 2019 Minnesota got a new first dog, thanks to Gus.
