The 62-year-old mother of two offered an update to her followers from her hospital bed on Monday, conveying how she was caught off guard by a debilitating kidney stone.

While sharing her ordeal on Instagram from the confines of her hospital room, Vanessa revealed: "Good morning from hospital, bit of a surprise, yesterday I was absolutely fine, completely fine and I had the [grandchildren] over for lunch and I was completely fine." She detailed that the sudden onset of pain was unlike anything she'd experienced before: "There was nothing wrong with me at all and then suddenly I got this pain and it was just absolutely extraordinary I've never had anything like it and I've given birth to two children naturally and never had any pain like that in my life." The broadcaster, who recently stepped in for Storm Huntley on the Jeremy Vine programme, confessed that despite generally being robust regarding her health, the intensity of the pain on Monday led her to bypass her stint on the LBC radio show, reports the Mirror .

Vanessa went on to describe the severity of her condition: "I was in agony I couldn't sit down, I couldn't lie down, I didn't know what to do, it was absolutely astounding." She concluded with information that following a scan, which showed a 5mm kidney stone, she was whisked away for immediate surgery. Alongside a video she posted, she exclaimed: "Gosh! Hello from hospital.

2pm I was fine. Had just made lunch and was playing with AJ, five, and Cecily nearly two. 3pm I was doubled over in agony.

Scan showed big kidney stone. OMG! Astoundingly painful. Rushed into theatre.

Very grateful thanks to my daughters nurses porters anaesthetist and wonderful surgeon. Thank you so much." The incident comes shortly after the Celebrity Big Brother star had to cut short her appearance on The Jeremy Vine Show last week due to an alarm in the studio leading to evacuation.

Expressing her frustration on Instagram as she stood outside the Grays Inn Road building in London, Vanessa voiced her exasperation: "Oh for goodness sake a fire alarm! Nobody knows if it's real or pretend, but we think it's real because there's an actual fire engine and the building has been evacuated.

I don't know what's going on with the show." In the wake of the disturbance, Vanessa updated her followers while a pre-recorded episode replaced the scheduled live discussion on The Jeremy Vine Show, typically hosted by Jeremy himself from 9:15am until 11:30am followed by Storm Huntley.
