Saturday, January 25, 2025 In a milestone for India’s rail network, Indian Railways conducted a successful trial run of the Vande Bharat Express in Jammu and Kashmir on Saturday, signaling a significant leap forward in connectivity and infrastructure. Designed to tackle the challenging terrain and climate of the region, the train traveled from Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Katra (SVDK) railway station to Srinagar railway station, traversing some of India’s most iconic engineering marvels. During its trial, the Vande Bharat Express passed over the Chenab bridge, renowned as the world’s highest rail bridge.
This engineering marvel stands as a testament to India’s infrastructural prowess, towering 359 meters above the Chenab River. The train also traversed the Anji Khad bridge, India’s first cable-stayed railway bridge, showcasing the country’s commitment to modernizing its rail infrastructure. Both bridges represent critical components of the Udhampur-Srinagar-Baramulla Rail Link (USBRL) project, aimed at transforming the connectivity of the region by linking it to the rest of India.
The seamless passage of the Vande Bharat Express over these landmarks reflects the readiness of these mega-projects to accommodate advanced rail services. The train’s journey was met with great enthusiasm. It halted briefly at Jammu station around 11:30 am, where it received a warm reception with slogans and praises for Indian Railways.
