Tuesday, January 21, 2025 Vancouver’s waterfront could soon feature a stunning 250-room floating hotel, combining luxury, sustainability, and innovation to boost tourism and jobs. If you’ve ever dreamed of drifting to sleep on the water, that vision might soon come to life in Vancouver. Plans are underway for a 250-room floating hotel to grace the city’s waterfront.
This ambitious proposal, spearheaded by Finnish developer Sunborn International in collaboration with the Vancouver Harbour Flight Centre, envisions the hotel permanently docked near the Vancouver Convention Centre. According to Graham Clarke, chairman of the flight centre, the project merges tourism, job creation, and sustainability into one innovative concept. Designed to operate sustainably, the floating hotel will rely entirely on renewable energy, integrating seamlessly with the Vancouver Convention Centre’s infrastructure.
Clarke emphasized that the hotel would function like a land-based building, with no water discharge, zero emissions, and no dependence on fossil fuels or city utilities. Beyond its innovative design, the hotel is expected to generate approximately 200 full-time jobs, varying with seasonal demand. Constructed off-site, the six-story vessel will feature public amenities such as a lobby, restaurants, and a spa located on its lower deck, offering unique experiences both for guests and locals.
The proposal is currently under review by Vancouver city officials as part of the rezoning pro.
