Built over Tehri Lake in Uttarakhand, India’s longest motorable suspension bridge ‘Dobra-Chanti’ is a true engineering marvel. Fast emerging as a tourist attraction, this bridge plays a significant role in economic growth of the state, connecting isolated areas and aiding agriculture as well as tourism. Tehri : Being an integral component of the Tehri Dam & Hydro Power Project in Uttarakhand, Dobra-Chanti bridge is India’s longest single-lane motorable bridge which is a marvel of engineering in true sense.

The bridge is 725 meters long and is suspended at a height of 80 meters above the Tehri dam Reservoir. It has a width of 7 meters and is capable of carrying a load of up to 750 tonnes. Bridge is named after the nearby village of Dobra and Chanti Peak This suspension bridge spans over the Tehri dam Reservoir, which is one of the largest man-made reservoirs in Asia and connects the two banks of the reservoir.



Tehri dam is also a multi-purpose river valley project aimed at utilising the resources of the Bhagirathi River for hydroelectric and irrigation purposes. The bridge is named after the nearby village of Dobra and Chanti Peak, which is located in the vicinity of the bridge. The construction of this bridge took three years to be completed.

The construction started in 2006 and was completed in 2009. An engineering marvel The Dobra-Chanti Bridge spans 725 meters and hangs 80 meters above the Tehri Reservoir’s water level. With a width of 7 meters, it can bear a loa.
