Saturday, November 9, 2024 Uttarakhand, which emerged as a separate entity from Uttar Pradesh on November 9, 2000, is set to mark its 24th Foundation Day this Saturday. Over the years, the state has achieved commendable progress in tourism and transportation infrastructure. However, it continues to face hurdles, particularly in healthcare and education, alongside a significant trend of migration from the hill regions to urban centers.
The aspiration for a dedicated state capital remains unrealized, while rural communities increasingly move to towns and Dehradun in search of better job opportunities, placing added pressure on urban resources and infrastructure. On an encouraging front, Uttarakhand has witnessed substantial growth in tourism, with projections pointing to nearly 100 million visitors this year. Infrastructure developments have enhanced connectivity, marked by projects such as the Delhi-Dehradun Expressway, the Rishikesh-Karnprayag railway line, and new flight routes linking major cities, all aimed at facilitating easier access to the state.
For Rudraprayag resident Alok Negi, migration and healthcare remain the most pressing challenges, particularly in the state’s rural regions. Young individuals are relocating within Uttarakhand or beyond to pursue employment opportunities. Despite progress in healthcare, more focused efforts are necessary.
