" by Morgan Sloss BuzzFeed Staff Link Facebook Pinterest Twitter Mail Another day, another development in the "childless cat lady" saga! Anna Moneymaker / Getty Images As you're probably aware, former president Donald Trump's vice-presidential running mate J.D. Vance recently came under fire for his resurfaced 2021 comments criticizing childfree people .

After blaming the "childless left" for the nation's woes, he shared this preposterous idea: "Let’s give votes to all children in this country, but let’s give control over those votes to the parents of the children." Kent Nishimura / Getty Images According to Vance, people who are intentionally childfree like me have "no physical commitment to the future of this country." Following 2021 backlash, he appeared on an episode of Tucker Carlson Tonight , where he doubled down and specifically called out several Democratic politicians, including Kamala Harris.

"We are effectively run in this country...

by a bunch of childless cat ladies who are miserable at their own lives and the choices that they've made, and so they want to make the rest of the country miserable, too. And it's just a basic fact." Kevin Dietsch / Getty Images BTW, Kamala Harris is a stepmom to her husband Doug Emhoff's two children from a previous marriage: Cole and Ella Emhoff.

Ella even responded to all this, saying, "I love my three parents." After Trump picked him, Vance's clip went mega-viral, leading celebrities like Jennifer Aniston to speak out against his nonsense. The backlash from women on Twitter was swift and severe — rightfully so! MAGA: Kamala Harris never birthed any children! Me: Just like the 46 presidents before her.

— Jewish Space Laser (@TapiocaPearl13) July 23, 2024 Twitter: @TapiocaPearl13 And now, J.D. Vance's wife, Usha Vance, has entered the chat.

Chip Somodevilla / Getty Images During a Fox News interview that aired on Monday, the 38-year-old defended her husband. "He made a quip in service of making a point that he wanted to make that was substantive," she said, excusing his offensive rhetoric. "And I just wish sometimes that people would talk about those things and that we would spend a lot less time just sort of going through this three-word phrase or that three-word phrase.

" Fox News / Via youtube.com Well, Usha, "childless cat ladies" is quite the three-word phrase. "What he was really saying is that it can be really hard to be a parent in this country, and sometimes our policies are designed in a way that make it even harder," she said.

Patrick T. Fallon / AFP via Getty Images But that's not at all what he said?! The Ohio Senator has repeatedly insulted people without kids. CNN reported he also took aim at childfree Americans on a 2020 episode of a conservative podcast, though they didn't mention the name of it.

According to the news outlet, Vance said Americans without kids are "more sociopathic" and make the US "less mentally stable." He took particular issue with "leadership class" childless Americans and also said Twitter's "most deranged" and "most psychotic" users don't have kids. Drew Angerer / Getty Images When asked what she wants to say to the women who were offended or hurt by his comments, Usha replied, "J.

D. absolutely, at the time and today, would never, ever, ever want to say something to hurt someone who was trying to have a family, who really was struggling with that." Anna Moneymaker / Getty Images So, he would only want to say things to hurt people who don't want to have kids? SMH.

Usha said she understands there are many reasons why "people choose not to have families, and many of those reasons are very good." Fox News / Via youtube.com Firstly, I take issue with the notion that having children is the only way to have a family.

My boyfriend, our dog, and I are a family — complete without any kids. Secondly, if Usha can admit there are "very good" reasons to remain childfree, why doesn't she inform her husband of this? "Let’s try to look at the real conversation that he’s trying to have and engage with it and understand for those of us who do have families, for the many of us who want to have families, and for whom it’s really hard, what can we do to make it better? What can we do to make it easier to live in 2024?" she concluded. Joe Raedle / Getty Images Voters shouldn't have to sift through a pile of insults to piece together the conversation a vice presidential running mate is "trying to have.

" If this candidate actually cared about building a campaign platform to address the needs of families, he'd do well to spend less time disparaging a huge portion of voters and instead focus on helping people. Anna Moneymaker / Getty Images Introducing national paid family leave , providing free lunch at schools nationwide, increasing child tax credits , expanding SNAP benefits for families, and implementing common-sense gun laws to keep kids safe at school would be a great place to start. Too bad for Vance these are all Democratic proposals.
