The USDA’s Food Safety and Inspection Service has put together a preliminary list of schools that received meat and chicken products that have been recalled because of Listeria contamination. The ready-to-eat products are part of an 11 million pound recall by BrucePac initiated after USDA testing confirmed that finished product was contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes. The preliminary list of schools that received the recalled products can be found here .

“The products that went to these schools were not part of USDA’s National School Lunch and Breakfast Programs; schools also purchase food directly from other vendors. FSIS will continue to update this and the retail product list as it receives more information,” according to the recall notice from the USDA’s Food Safety and Inspection Service. As of the posting of the recall notice there had not been any confirmed illnesses reported.



However, it can take up to 70 days after consumption of tainted food for symptoms of Listeria infection to develop. “The problem was discovered after FSIS performed routine product testing of finished product containing RTE poultry products produced by BrucePac (of Durant, OK) and confirmed those products positive for Listeria monocytogenes. Subsequent FSIS investigation identified BrucePac RTE chicken as the source of the Listeria monocytogenes,” according to the recall notice.
