Apple cider is a favourite drink with everyone in the much-awaited fall season. However, local health authorities in US states are warning people about the dangers of consuming unpasteurized apple cider as it may be infected with harmful bacteria – that cause severe sickness. According to the Ogle County Health Department, you must avoid drinking unpasteurized apple cider as it has a high risk of potential foodborne illness – which leads to vomiting, nausea, and severe diarrhoea.

Illinois and Georgia Health Departments issue warnings Officials say as it is made with fresh apples, apple cider - a golden-colored liquid, is mostly unfiltered and unpasteurized as most of the local manufacturers, do not take time to pasteurize because it is not required. "Apple cider that has NOT been pasteurized can contain harmful bacteria that can make people sick," the county health department posted on social media websites. In neighbouring Georgia, the Fulton County Health Department has shared a similar message.



“Make sure to check labels this fall — it's required to disclaim if the product has been heat treated or not," the department wrote, as reported by CBS News. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, you must boil it for at least one minute before consuming it. Untreated juices and ciders are aplenty in the US The US Food and Drug Administration says it monitors most juices sold across the country should be pasteurized or heat-treated to make sure all harm.
