SAN ANTONIO — A contentious presidential race unlike any other – featuring a convicted felon and a vice president taking over the ticket just over three months before Election Day – reached the finish line on Tuesday. The Associated Press called Texas for former President Donald Trump, giving the Republican candidate the state's 40 electoral votes. With 95% of precincts reporting, he had 56.
6% of the Lone Star State vote to Harris' 42%. Trump was also on the verge of winning the White House contest after he was projected by CBS to secure the key battleground states of Pennsylvania, Georgia and North Carolina. Those victories make the Harris campaign's bid all the more challenging, requiring a virtual sweep of the remaining states to have any chance.
His win became official when Wisconsin was called for the former president just after 4:30 a.m. Pennsylvania, a part of the once-reliable Democratic stronghold known as the “blue wall” with Michigan and Wisconsin, was carried by Trump when he first won the White House in 2016 and then flipped back to Democrats in 2020.
Trump also flipped Georgia, which had voted for Democrats four years ago, and retained the closely contested state of North Carolina. Trump’s gains sharply curtailed Harris’ path to victory. Addressing his supporters early Wednesday from his campaign’s watch party in Florida, Trump said, “Every citizen, I will fight for you, for your family and your future.
