However, arrangements are being made to prepare for Initial Operating Capability in 2027. Preparing for Initial Operating Capability in 2027 Reviewing a USAF January 15 statement, the US Air Force is adjusting its contractual relationship with Boeing to get the T-7A Red Hawk ready for initial operating capability.

Initial Operating Capability is when sufficient T-7As are available and proven capable to train tomorrow’s fighter pilots. As Andrew Hunter, Assistant Secretary of the USAF for Acquisition, Technology and Logistics, explained in the statement, “Acquisition programs cannot be stagnant, even when they are fixed-price. This is why I’ve directed the T-7A team to implement updates to reduce risk and increase our confidence in the aircraft design, all to ensure we can deliver the T-7A to the warfighter when needed.

” Although the production decision has slid to 2026, some elements are being accelerated to the T-7A Red Hawk rollout plan. Those elements are: Enabling the start of Air Education and Training Command’s efforts to create a curriculum to train future fight pilots and their instructors on the T-7A platform. Four Production Representative Test Vehicles (PRTVs) will be procured in 2025-2026 to help with curriculum development, ongoing testing – like formation flying and testing mission systems, and production readiness.
