Pune: A group of citizens from Uruli-Phursungi has opposed demerger of the areas from PMC . These citizens said at a news conference on Wednesday that the formation of a dedicated municipal council for these areas would not serve any purpose and only create complications in civic administration. As per Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) officials, the two areas were part of the 11 areas merged into the civic limits in 2017.
Earlier, the govt had invited suggestions and objections over the proposal for a demerger, following which the decision to exclude these areas was announced. While declaring the demerger, the govt excluded the area of waste depot in these areas, which will remain with PMC. "Majority of citizens in Phursungi and Uruli Devachi are against formation of the municipal council.
Primarily, the citizens are angry due to incorrect tax structure and lack of basic amenities," said Amol Harpale, a resident of merged areas. "Phursungi and Uruli Devachi are among the 34 areas gradually included in Pune Municipal Corporation limits since 2017. Why are these two areas being treated differently? This is unfair for residents of these two areas," said Ulhas Shewale, another resident.
According to residents, the PMC has retained control of the garbage depot area within the boundaries of Phursungi and Uruli Devachi. This may lead to issues of administrative management. Ranjit Raskar, another resident, said that the state govt should rectify the flaws in tax structure for all 34 .
