The board of directors of UPSRTC on Thursday approved the purchase of as many as 3,108 buses at a cost of Rs 1,000 crore. This would include 100 high-end luxury buses , 39 AC sleeper buses, 51 non-AC sleeper buses, and other categories of buses. The Lucknow region would receive 10 of these buses, including both AC and ordinary buses.
The in-principle nod to set up a charging depot for electric buses at the Sahibabad depot workshop in Ghaziabad was also granted. The corporation would also purchase 20 cranes to remove buses damaged in accidents from crash spots. The board also directed a focus on the training of drivers and their health check-ups to reduce the number of road accidents, which increased this year compared to last year.
