Up to 30 children a day go missing on one Sussex beach during the summer. Police have spoken out about the "distressing situation" at popular beach Camber Sands which often has up to 30,000 visitors a day over the course of the summer. Rother Police said finding missing children who have been separated from their families is officers' main job while on patrols at the sandy beach near Rye.

A spokesman for the police force said: "Camber is a beautiful beach and boasts the only sandy beach for miles, drawing up to 30,000 visitors in a single day. "Consequently, we deal with up to 30 missing children daily.
We understand how distressing this situation can be for any parent or guardian, but fortunately, these children are typically found in under ten minutes by ourselves with the help of RNLI, beach patrol and other families on the beach. "To ensure the safety of your children and facilitate a swift reunion, we suggest writing your mobile number on a wearable item, such as a wristband. "This will allow us or a member of the public to contact you immediately once found.
" This comes after the Maritime and Coastguard Agency urged parents to put safety wristbands on their children when they go to the beach. These wristbands are often handed out at lifeguarded beaches or can be ordered for free online. A spokesman for the Maritime and Coastguard Agency said: "Since the start of the summer holidays, coastguard rescue teams have been responding to an alarming number of incidents involving missing children at beaches around the UK.
"Beach safety wristbands are handed out at many beaches and can also be ordered free online from our web shop. "In an emergency at the coast, call 999 and ask for the coastguard." The emergency services have also been dealing with a high number of children going missing from a beach in West Sussex .
On Sunday, July 28, a total of 42 children were reported missing from West Wittering beach. Several coastguard and RNLI team were mobilised and found all of them. On Friday, August 2, a three-year-old also went missing on the same beach .
Sussex Police, the Hayling coastguard team and two Hayling lifeboats assisted lifeguards with the search. The child was found two miles from where they were last seen..
