South Devon Railway is inviting people to a unique festive experience with unforgettable food and views. This Christmas the railway is inviting guests onto its newly reintroduced Christmas Dining Car. The experience combines a luxurious journey through Devon’s beautiful winter landscape with a four-course gourmet meal made from fresh, local ingredients.
People will arrive at the beautifully decorated Buckfastleigh Station where they will be greeted by a crackling fire in the ticket office and a complimentary seasonal drink. Guests will then be guided to their first-class setting where they will have plenty of time to soak in the charm of the classic train ride while enjoying attentive, at-seat bar service. Gluten-free and vegan menu options are available.
The menu includes butternut squash & sweet potato soup or a brie and cranberry tartlet for starter with a traditional Christmas dinner or nut roast with all the trimmings for the main course. Afters includes a Christmas pudding or a clementine panacotta with a ginger crumb. To follow guests will be offered coffee and a mini mince pie.
The train will run on select Tuesdays leading up to Christmas — November 26, December 3, 10, and 17 — with guests being able to choose from two sittings per day, 1pm lunch and 7pm evening service. Tickets are now available online and are priced at £79 per person. Early booking is recommended by South Devon Railway.
