times news network Jhansi: A 26-year-old undertrial prisoner, identified as Karan Kushwaha , allegedly committed suicide by hanging himself from a tree on the Jhansi jail compound on Monday evening. Following the jailhouse death, head warder Indarmani Chaubey was suspended and an investigation has been ordered into the incident. According to the authorities, the incident occurred around 5 pm when Karan, who was lodged in barrack number 4A, fashioned a noose using his towel and tied it to a tree branch.
He then climbed a bucket lying there and hanged himself. The jail wardens notified the authorities, after which Karan was rushed to the jail hospital. Due to the severity of his condition, he was referred to the Jhansi Medical College for further treatment.
However, despite the efforts of medical professionals, Karan succumbed to his injuries. According to jail superintendent Vinod Kumar, Karan had been grappling with depression stemming from personal issues and he had not been involved in any altercations with the jail authorities. Karan had been in Jhansi jail since 2021 in connection with a case of attempted murder.
