Pune: Mobility tech ranging from sub-space rockets to e-scooters were the highlights of the CII Nexgen Mobility Expo in the city, which took off on Friday. Most of these technologies, developed by young entrepreneurs, present low-cost and offbeat solutions to a host of stakeholders in the transportation sector, from everyday commuters and corporations to defence players. The theme for the three-day conference, organised by the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII), is integrating technology with mobility.

It is open till Sunday. For instance, Paras and Narendra Patidar have developed a personal rapid transport system along the lines of the pod taxi initiative proposed at Bandra Kurla Complex. The deep-tech involves tracks responsible for moving pods, and could reduce cost of infrastructure by 20% compared to conventional modes of public transport along with reducing waiting time for commuters and costs.



The alternative solution offers setting up pods carrying three to four people at a time. Their startup, Kargetu Urban Mobility, is in talks with some state govts to set up the infrastructure for their technology, Narendra said. Similarly, to address last-mile connectivity , Warje-based mechanical engineer Aniruddha Gunjal has developed an electric kick scooter .
