Tuesday, August 20, 2024 The upcoming UN Tourism Global Conference on Wine Tourism, scheduled for September 11-13, 2024, in Yerevan, Armenia, promises to be a pivotal event, emphasizing the preservation of heritage through wine tourism under the theme “Heritage in Every Bottle: Crafting Authentic Wine Tourism Experiences.” Co-organized with Armenia’s Ministry of Economy, the conference aims to integrate tradition with contemporary approaches to benefit local communities. The gathering will spotlight exemplary practices from celebrated wine regions like Italy’s Strada del Barolo, France’s Bourgogne, and Argentina’s Mendoza.

Participants will have the opportunity to engage with leaders from the Iter Vitis – Cultural Route of the Council of Europe, gleaning insights into effective network-building across the wine tourism sector. UN Tourism Secretary-General Zurab Pololikashvili says: “Wine tourism continues to grow, both in popularity with tourists and as a pillar of rural growth and protector of cultural heritage. The Global Conference on Wine Tourism will once again bring together the most exciting leaders of the sector, and I look forward to welcoming them all to Yerevan, Armenia.

” The conference will also offer a rich array of presentations by industry stalwarts, including the globally lauded Catena Zapata. Workshops will be conducted at Armenia’s historic sites, such as the Areni-1 cave, known as the world’s oldest winery. These sessions will cover a broad spectrum of topics, from deploying e-commerce in wine tourism to adopting sustainable technologies.

A deep dive into modern communication and digital strategies will be facilitated by Jochen Heussner from Italy, along with other esteemed figures like Alder Yarrow, Paul Wagner, and Gergely Szolnoki, who will share insights into expanding wine tourism’s reach and enhancing its impact on global audiences..
