Tuesday, August 20, 2024 UN teams up with Madhya Pradesh Tourism to empower women through new opportunities in Pachmarhi, setting a precedent with all-woman hotel management. Pachmarhi, the only hill station in Madhya Pradesh , is at the center of an innovative initiative by the MP Tourism Development Corporation (MPTDC) aimed at empowering women. The corporation is entrusting the management of Hotel Amaltas to an all-woman team.

This project, in collaboration with the women’s wing of the United Nations, seeks to provide employment opportunities for women while promoting safe tourism practices. Women constitute about 40% of the foreign visitors to Madhya Pradesh. An official stated that this will be the first hotel in the country to be managed entirely by women.

The team, consisting of 23 to 24 women, has undergone extensive training to prepare for this role. This initiative not only advances women’s empowerment but also demonstrates the state’s commitment to creating a safe and welcoming environment for female travelers, according to the official. The corporation is optimistic about the success of this experiment in Pachmarhi and is considering implementing similar initiatives in other hotels across the state.

This could potentially lead to more women being employed in the tourism industry and a greater emphasis on creating safe spaces for women in Madhya Pradesh, the official added. Beyond the Pachmarhi project, Madhya Pradesh Tourism has also introduced other measures to create employment opportunities through innovative approaches. In Madhai, within the Satpura Tiger Reserve, well-trained women are now working as guides and driving safari vehicles.

This initiative not only provides employment for women but also challenges gender stereotypes and promotes gender equality in the tourism industry. The success of this project could have significant implications for the tourism industry as a whole. By fostering safe tourism practices and creating employment opportunities for women, Madhya Pradesh Tourism is not only drawing more visitors to the state but also driving broader industry growth.
