Pune: The Bhosari police on Saturday arrested two men on the charge of abetting a 12-year-old girl 's death by suicide on June 6 this year. The girl, who resided in one of the duo's neighbourhood, was found dead, hanging from a ceiling fan in the bedroom in her house. The police found a cellphone number with the girl.
An accidental death was registered, and the case was under investigation. Sub-inspector Suhas Khade of the Bhosari police told TOI that the police found that the cellphone number with the girl belonged to one of the two men. "Also, the duo was spotted in CCTV footage stalking the girl.
Based on these circumstances, we arrested the duo, aged 20 and 19, on Saturday," Khade said. He stated that the duo has been charged under sections 306 ( abetment of suicide ) and 354-D (stalking) of the Indian Penal Code. The girl's father lodged a complaint against them, Khade said.
He added that the 20-year-old man is a neighbour of the complainant, while the suspect's friend is from Charholi. "The CCTV footage recovered from different spots showed that the duo were stalking the girl," Khade said. Khade added that the suspect gave his cellphone number to the girl and was forcing her to contact him.
"Frustrated by the harassment, the girl ended her life by hanging herself in the bedroom of her house on June 6," he said, adding that both arrested men are jobless. Investigations are going on..
