Pune: Two people, including a woman, collectively lost Rs 46 lakh in separate online task frauds between Nov 2023 and June. A Bhosari-based private firm employee lost Rs 41 lakh in an online task fraud between Nov and Dec 2023. Similarly, a housewife from Chinchwad was duped of Rs 4.

The victims had filed respective complaints with the cybercrime cell of the Pimpri Chinchwad police and separate cases were registered with the Bhosari and Chinchwad police on Tuesday. An officer from the Bhosari police said according to the complainant, in Nov last year, he received a message from an unknown number offering him a part-time job .



He said the victim was initially given a few tasks of posting comments on a social media platform. "After completing the tasks, some amounts were transferred to his bank account," he said. "The victim transferred amounts to the bank account numbers when crooks asked him to invest in prepaid tasksprovided to him and lost Rs 41 lakh," he said.

In the Chinchwad case, a 33-year-old woman stated that on June 22, an unknown caller contacted her and offered a part-time job. "The woman transferred Rs 4.75 lakh to 17 bank accounts ,” he said.
