The tourist season in Goa officially kicked off on Wednesday (October 2) with the arrival of two chartered flights from Russia, bringing a total of 488 passengers, according to the Goa Tourism Department. The tourists were welcomed by Tourism Minister Rohan Khaunte at Manohar International Airport in Mopa, following the end of the southwest monsoon season. A flight from Moscow arrived at 9 am with 349 passengers, shortly followed by another from Yekaterinburg carrying 210 travellers, an official told PTI.
Khaunte welcomed the visitors and highlighted that this year, beach shacks were established well ahead of the tourist influx, a significant change from previous seasons. He emphasised that Goa has long been a preferred destination for British and Russian travellers, highlighting that last season saw over 10 million visitors, travel to the state. He pointed out that while Goa is renowned for its beaches, it is increasingly attracting interest in its hinterland due to the regenerative tourism initiative launched by his department.
