Two people have been arrested on suspicion of murder following the death of a woman in Ramsbottom yesterday morning (Tuesday, November 26). Police were called to Harrison Street at around 4.20am by crews from the North West Ambulance Service after reports of a concern for welfare.

A woman in her 70s was pronounced dead at the scene. Her next of kin have been informed and are being supported by specialist officers. A man and a woman in their 30s were arrested on suspicion of murder and remain in custody for questioning.

Detective Inspector Chris Mannion, Bury district, said: “Firstly, I would like to send my condolences to the family of the woman who has sadly died. “Incidents of this nature will undoubtedly cause shock and distress to those who live and work in the area, we are working to piece together a timeline of events.

We believe this to be an isolated incident with no wider threat to the community. “The property is now a scene and extra patrols have been deployed for reassurance. We are currently investigating the full circumstances of the woman’s death and are keeping an open mind as we carry out this work.
