1 2 Prayagraj : The water level in both Ganga and Yamuna , which was receding until 12 noon at all three measuring points of city, has become stable in the evening. This shows little possibility of immediate relief to thousands of families affected by the flood. As the water level is decreasing at a slow pace, the discharge from the upstream barrages into the Ganga is still a worry for the administration.

Because of this discharge, the water level in both rivers has become stable. The water level in the Ganga at Phaphamau had receded in comparison to Tuesday and was recorded at 83.83 metres at 8 am.

However, the same at 4 pm became stable at 83.77 metres. Likewise, the Ganga at Chhatnag was flowing at 82.

65 metres and at 4 pm, the water level was at 82.64 metres. Similarly, the Yamuna at Naini was flowing at 83.

04 metres, which had receded by around 76 cm compared to Monday, and was stable at the same level. As such, people are still staying in the flood relief camps. Around 2.

96 lakh cusecs of water was released from Kanpur barrage on Tuesday and 2.73 lakh cusecs was released from the barrage on Monday. On normal days, 3 lakh cusecs of water is released from the barrage, which is not much, but at this time, due to the floodplain of the Ganga being full, the flood like conditions is likely to prevail for a few more days.

Likewise, 1.62 lakh cusecs of water has been released from Narora and 80.31 thousand cusecs of water from Haridwar in the Ganga.

The water released from Narora and Haridwar barrages is also reaching Prayagraj. Meanwhile, 7,000 cusecs of water has been released from the barrage into Tons river. Due to this, the water level of the Ganga is expected to increase again.

Although the water level of the Yamuna and its tributaries has decreased in Banda, it is not being affected here due to the pressure of the Ganga. Apart from this, the rain in the flow area of the Ganga and Yamuna along with Prayagraj can also become an obstacle in the way of getting relief from the flood. Due to the flood in the Ganga-Yamuna, funerals have been stopped at some places.

Last rites have been stopped at Rasulabad crematorium. After the submergence of Daraganj crematorium, cremation is now being done on the approach road. In Phaphamau too, last rites are being done on the road.

As soon as the water level of the Ganga reached 83.80 metres in Phaphamau, last rites were stopped at Rasulabad crematorium. Jagdish Dwivedi, who conducts last rites at the ghat, said that first the road to the crematorium was submerged.

After the platform for keeping the bodies was submerged, the last rites were stopped. All the bodies coming to the ghat are being sent to the electric crematorium at Shankarghat. This is causing trouble to the people coming for the last rites.

Likewise, Daraganj crematorium has also been submerged in the flood. Now last rites are being done at Triveni band. Former corporator of Alopibag, Kamlesh Singh, said that due to the last rites being done on the road, traffic on the dam is getting affected.

Due to water filling at the ghat, the wooden stacks are also being shifted to the band area. Similarly, due to submergence of Chhatnag crematorium, last rites are now being performed on Chhatnag road. District administration is continuing with the facilities being provided to flood victims .
