Prayagraj: Residents living in more than a dozen low-lying areas heaved a major sigh of relief after the water level of the twin rivers--Ganga and Yamuna started receding on Wednesday. Though the water level of Ganga at Phaphamau was showing a rising trend in early morning hours, it started receding in the afternoon. The water level of both Ganga and Yamuna receded by at least 8 and 15 cm at Chhatnag and Naini, respectively in the past four hours.

Officials of the flood control department said “A strict vigil is being maintained and teams have been deployed at static locations accordingly”. Both the rivers were flowing more than four meters below the danger mark on Wednesday. At 8 am, the water level of Ganga at Phaphamau and Chhatnag was 81.
